Dear List,

I am starting my research on my 19th Great Grand father and his wife as shown in the heading and would enjoy knowing if any others on this list has the same line and have information to share. Here is what i have found to date... within the last few days:

I descend from their son, Oliver Sandes:

Knighted at the Battle of Martin Swarthe, 1487

The will of Sir. William Sandys
Sir. William Sandys, the elder, 17th October 9 Henry VII, 1493. I will that William, my son, and Margaret, my wife, pay all my depts out of my goods at Andover and at the Vine; I will that Richard, my son, have all my purchased lands.
Proved: 8th April 1497

William Sandes of Furness fells, Married Margaret Rawson, daughter and heir to William Rawson of Co. York. West states that his wife was also cousin and heiress to Thomas Rawlinson, Abbot of Furness, 1440-46.

H Visitations: Cumb 1615, Worcest. 1569, Canbridge 1575 and 1623., Surrey 1530, 1572 and 1623, Gloster 1623, Wilts and Dorset 1623, Kent 1619, Bucks 1634 Bp.S.Ped.

On 26 March, 1536, Harry Huttoft, a Southampton customs official, when writing to Cromwell about charges to be levied on goods at the port, stated that there was much talk there about the suppression of religious houses, adding, with the assurance that was characteristic of most of Cromwell's friends and tools, 'Let me be a suitor for one, viz. the house of Mottisfont, where there is a good friend of mine with as good a master and convent as is in the country. If none are to be reserved, but all must pass one way, please to let me have it towards my poor living.' (fn. 3) The house was actually surrendered on 22 May following. (fn. 4)
Huttoft did not however succeed in getting his longed-for share of the monastic plunder, for. Mottisfont fell to the lot of a much more influential person, William, Lord Sandys, K.G., the king's chamberlain. The grant, dated 14 July, 1536, conferred on him and Lady Margery, his wife, the site and the whole of the possessions and advowsons of the late priory. (fn. 5)
Cant. Archiep. Reg., Peckham, ff. 290b, 230.

The Antiquities of Furness: Illustrated with Engravings, By Thomas West, William Close Page 321
This also claims that Oliver died without issue:

To return to William Sandys who married Margaret the cousin and heir of abbot Rawlinson he had issue three sons first George Sandys who married daughter of Curwen by Sir Robert Atkinscalled Curwen of whom principally hereafter
2 William Sandys of Little Petenhow in Surry and
3 Oliver Sandys of Sherin in the county of Surry who died without issue William Sandys the second son had John Sandys of Marlow in the county of Bucksi who died without issue and Anne married to Sir Richard Weston knt under treasurer of England.

Where does Oliver Sandys fit in....as the husband of Jane Sandys as noted below?

V~ Visitations: Cumb 1615,PTCH Vol: VII; Page 19 shows him as the son of William Sandys and Margaret Rawson, da. of William.

V~ Wilts and Dorset 1623,?? I have this note in my files but after further research I can not find a link.

V~ Surrey 1530,Link noted on Page 32. 1562 ??, 1623 ??,

v~ Sussex 1530, and 1633-4, Page 16, "Jane da. of Oliver married Wintersull"[With arms tricked for the wife of Oliver, Joan]

V~ Cumb & Westmor p.116 Another pedigree states that Joan wife of Robert Wintersell was the da. of Oliver Sandys.

[V~ = Visitation]

The History of The family of Sandys by E.S. Sandys, published 1930 on page placed Joan Sandys as the wife of Robert Wintersall, being the da. of Sir. William Sandys, brother of Oliver Sandys, in pedigrees A. along with siblings: Julian, Allee,[Alice?] William, Robert and John. This work seems to be well researched.

BUT, I have yet to be able to find primary documents for the link from William to Joan who married Wintersall.

This is all I have for now.
