I am trying to find out as much as I can about a Major General Sir Francis Willoughby. When did he exactly live and who were his parents, did he have two or three wives?

His last wife apparently was Elizabeth Barlow, daughter of the Most Rev. Randall Barlow, Archbishop of Tuam, and Elizabeth Wheeler who was the daughter of Rt. Rev Jonas Wheeler, Bishop of Ossory.

By this wife he apparently had a son Dr. Charles Willoughby born 1635 (Cork, Ireland ?), died between 28 August 1694 and 1 September 1694, buried 2 Sept in Dublin

By earlier wive(s) he appears to have had
1.Antonia of Antonetta or Antonina, born about 1607 (Dublin ?) married Colonel Sir James Scott of Rossie, in Fifeshire, Scotland

2.a daughter born about 1608, probably in Dublin, who married Col. Chidley Coote (he born about 1605, died 19 November 1668

3.Sir Anthony - knighted at Oxford on 4 February 1645/1646. Sometime Governor of Galway Castle

4.Col. Francis Willoughby. died 30 March 1678 at Dunbron, St.Margaret's Parish, Dublin. he had a daughter Mary (or Katherine) who married William Stopford, they are the grandparents of James Stopford, 1st Earl of Courtown.

5.Colonel William Willoughby

Can anyone help?

With best wishes

Leo,

In "Browns of Fordell, Finmount and Vicarsgrange" by Robert Riddle
Stodart, 1887, he was of the family of Willoughby of Belouersby. A plate gives Sir
Francis Willoughby's arms (Or, fretty azure.)

"Lady Brown, who was kinswoman of her husband, was elder daughter and
co-heir of Sir James Scott of Rossie, in the parish of Collessie, county Fife,
by Antonia (or Antonetta) his wife, daughter of Sir Francis Willoughby,
Governor of Dublin Castle, of the family of Willoughby of Belouersby. Their
contract of marriage, [ie Brown] dated 11th February 1648, ..."
