To whom it may concern.
Did King Robert (John) born 1357 died 4 apr 1406 have two sons by the
name of John?
one by his concubine? called of Kilbride
and another by annabella Drummond called of Ardgowan? or blackhall?
and if so whom did each marry?
The Hull data base (yea I know) only shows one son.
Thanks in advance
RAY

Raymond,

My information differs from yours in a number of instances. I'm not saying
I am correct, but I think history supports it. Robert III was christened
John, and took the name Robert upon his accession. He was born around
c1337/40. In c.1366/7 he married Annabella, daughter of Sir John Drummond of
Stobhall by Mary. Robert's and Annabella's children are

1 David
b. 24 Oct 1378
d. 26/27 March 1402
2 James I
b. 25 July (?)(or in December), 1394 at Dunfermline
d. assassinated on 21 Feb 1437
3 Robert
Died young
4 Margaret
5 Mary or Mariot
6 Egidia
7 Elizabeth

Robert III also had the following illegitimate issue:
1 James Stewart of Kilbride.

As you can see, there were two James (vice John)and would probably be better
referred to in that manner as the legitimate son, James, became James I.

A good source book is Alison Weir's "Britain's Royal Families: The Complete
Genealogy." The ISBN is 0-7126-7448-9. Pimlico is the publisher.

I hope this helps.

Robert III did have an illegitimate son, John Stewart of Blackhall and
Ardgowan (d.about 1412/13). John's mother is unknown. John's daughter,
Margaret (d.after 1442), was the second wife of Duncan 1st lord Campbell
(d.1453). John's son and heir was also a John Stewart (d.about 1442).
