Hi,

This is what I have compiled on the line of St. Casimir and his siblings. I
think there are a few errors. Can anyone add anything?

>>>>>>>>>>>
St Casimir's father was Casimir IV, "the Great," King of Poland. His mother
was Queen Elizabeth of Habsburg, the daughter of Emperor Albrecht II of
Germany, Bohemia, and Hungary. In 1471, St. Casimir (not yet a saint) was
elected King of Hungary, which he denied, since he wished to lead a monastic
life. His brother Wladislaw Jagiello was then King of Bohemia from 1471-1516,
and King of Hungary in 1490. Wladislaw married (1) Beatrice of Aragon,
daughter of Ferrent I of Aragon, and Naples. His brother Jan I Olbracht was
king of Poland from 1492-1501. Jan was the Polish Henry VIII. He was said to
have had a passion for reading, drink, dancing, love, dressed like a peacock,
and worshipped pleasure. Aleksander (another brother) was king of Poland from
1501-1506. His reign was very short lived, but he was loved by his subjects.
Another brother who became king was Sigismund/Zygmunt I, king of Poland from
1505-1548, Albert was enthroned, and his youngest brother, Frederyk was a
Cardinal (1493), Bishop of Krakow, and Archbishop of Gnesen. Casimir's seven
sisters married various royal offspring around Europe. St. Casimir was born
on October 3, 1458 in the royal palce of Cracow. His grandfather was
Wladislaus II Jagiello, king of Poland. Casimir died on March 4, 1482, at the
age of 24, of tuberculosis, in Vilna (or Grodno) the capital of Lithuania.
His remains rest in the chapel of the Blessed Virgin in the cathedral of
Vilna.

I have several addictions that break your line at all:

- Wladyslaw I (IV) wasn't a son of Boleslaw V "the Modest". He was a descendant
(as I remember a great-grandson) of Duke Konrad "the Masovian", the second
son of Casimir II
- the husband of his daughter Elisabeth was Charles Robert ("Caroberto")
- Casimir IV "Jagiellon" (not "Jagello"; in Polish it should be "Jagiellonczyk"
that means "son of Jagiello") was son of Wladyslaw "Jagiello" (not Jagellon)
by his fourth wife Sophie, not Jadwiga (just look at the dates of life of
Casimir and Jadwiga!). Sophie was descended from house of Rurik by her
grandmother. The better line to early Piasts is that by the wife of
Casimir IV.

And I think that Jan Olbracht wasn't similar to Henry VIII at all. At that time
all rulers liked women, drinks and arts. And Jan had no wife!

Cheers! Sebastian

Only one king of Poland has been termed "The Great", and that was Kazimierz
(Casimir) "The Great", 1310-1370, of the Piast dynasty.

He is usually remembered for the disaster that befell the noblemen of the feudal
Levy who were massacred during an expedition into the Bukovina forest in Modavia
in 1497. It was during his reign that the Seym shaped itself into the main
institution of government of the Polish Commonwealth. Aleksander (another brother)

was king of Poland from

> 1501-1506. His reign was very short lived, but he was loved by his subjects.

He was probably the least talented of the brothers. After taking the Polish throne
in 1501 he proved unable to maintain order. His feeble rule led to a long-term
decline in the power of Poland's kings. He was forced to sign the Mielnik
Privilege of 1501, which effectively put rule into the hand of the Senate.

> Another brother who became king was Sigismund/Zygmunt I, king of Poland from

His reign marks the beginning of the golden age of Polish culture. Unusually, his
son, Zygmunt II, was crowned king in his lifetime.

Elizabeth (below m Robert of Hungary) was daughter of Kazimierz The Great
(1310-1370), not of Wladislaw. He was son of Wladyslaw Lokietek (1260-1333), and
Wladyslaw Lokietek was grandson of Konrad of Mazovia.

The best line from the early Piasts is:

Kazimierz I of Cujavia (ca 1211-1267)

Kazimierz III "the Great" (1310-1370), king of Poland

Elzbieta (Elisabeth) (aft1326-1361) m. Boguslaw V of Pommern (ca 1316-1373/4)

Elzbieta (bef. 1345-1393) m. Emperor Charles IV of Luxembourg (1316-1378)

Emperor Sisismund (1368-1437)

Elisabeth (1409-1442) m. Albrecht II von Habsburg (1397-1439)

Elisabeth (1437-1505) m. Kazimierz IV (1427-1492)

St Casimir

A part of other line:

Ludwik I (Piast) (ca 1311-1398), Duke of Brzeg (in Slask/Silesia)

Malgorzata (Margaret) (1342-1386) m. Duke Albrecht I of Bavaria (1336-1404)

Thank you Sebastian,

Since I don't speak Polish...(no Polish in my tree), and I have been trying
to do my husband's genealogy, I am basically using English translations...to
get the main information. I have discovered that these are varied and much
different from one document to the other. This is true with Latin records as
well, and Polish/German records.

This is very confusing to say the least. I have about four different trees
here on the royals and they all have differences, thus making problems.

I am trying to arrive at which one is most reliable. :-)

Yes I believe I had a * by Sophie (as correct line) to Casimir.

I am trying to remember which write-up portayed Jan as Henry-like? You are
right they were all spoiled :-)

Hi Renia....I had Sophia with a Star * because she is the mother of Casimir,
at least in the accounts I have. He was married 4 times
