Nichols in "History & Antiquities of Leicestershire" (Volume IV Part 1 Page 319) has Adam Neale de Clipston as the son of Nigel de Pulteney who is the son of Hugo de Pulteney (who in turn is the son of another Nigel de Pulteney). This at variance with a number of sources (such as "Who's Who in Late Medieval England" by Michael Hicks, page 96) which states that Sir John Pulteney - the Mayor of London - was the son of Adam Neale of Clipston and grandson of Hugh Pulteney of Pulteney (Leicestershire). Thus Adam's father is given as the son of Nigel de Pulteney OR as the son of Hugh de Pulteney. Is anyone able to say which is the correct interpretation, please?
The Who's Who entry matches that of (the old) Dictionary of National Biography. That suggests something may be learned by consulting the new Oxford DNB (to which I don't have access).
