Wayne - From THE NORTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL REGISTER, GPC 1979, J. R. B. Hathaway, ed., pg. 577:

William Bryan "was said to have come originally from Ireland. He is buried in Pasquotank County, N. C. He married in England about 1689 Alice Needham said to be the daughter of Lord Needham, they had one son Needham Bryan born Feb'y 23rd, 1690, who come from Virginia and settled at Snowfield, Bertie Co., N. C., he md Annie Rombeau Nov. 11th, 1711. She died Jan'y 16th, 1730. Augt 24th, 1732 he married his 2nd wife Susanna Harrell. She died in 1752, then he married 3rd Sarah Woodward. They are all buried at Snowfields." <I typed as seen.>

Needham Bryan and Annie Rombeau had:
-- Rachel Bryan m. William Whitfield Nov 6th, 1741
-- William Bryan m. Elizabeth Smith (daughter of John Smith)
-- Needham Bryan m. Nancy Smith (daughter of John)

There are several pages of descendants of William Bryan, which I intend to unravel and will be very glad to share the data. I have always believed the introduction of the name Hardy (seen in Ed Mann's listing) indicates a tie-in with the Hardy family. I also believe there is a tie-in with the Council family, indicated by the name Council (and of course Edward Bryan's marrying Christian(a) Council). And it has been rumored that this is a royal line, descending from John of Gaunt.

For reference, I repeat Ed Mann's listing here:

I have this, taken from a privately published book my late aunt did.

Descendants of Josiah Bryan

1 Josiah Bryan b: 1634 d: 1685
+Mary Longhands
2 Council Bryan
2 Hardy Bryan
2 John Bryan
2 Edward Bryan aka: Edward Birand b: 1663 d: 1742
+Christian Council ref #: Ś261
2 William Bryan
+Lady Alice Needham

The source she listed was _Marriages of Isle of WIght Co., Virginia,
1628 - 1800_, p.8.

Beware _Wurt's Magna Charta_. It's occasionally wrong enough to be
dangerous, but not consistently enough so to serve as a reliable
contraindicator. I'd be delighted to have a better source for these.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.
