I'd like to know who married Pietro de Cardona (dead in 1522 in the Bicocca
battle), count of Collesano (Sicily) from 1479 to 1522. I'd like to know who
were all Pietro's sons too.
Thanks,
Rosario Basile

Hello José, is the date of 1533 correct for Maria, I have 1563 as her
death date which seems more credible, unless I have her married to the
wrong Francesco d'Este (1516-1578, Principe di Massa). TIA
Cheers,
Henry

Thank you very much for your information.
I have notices about other two Pietro Cardona's sons:
1. Ippolita (dead in 1562) married in Polizzi (Sicily) with Giovanni
Notarbartolo, barone di Villanova.
2. Giovanna, married in Polizzi with Giovanni-Francesco Basili, barone del
Grano.
Is it possible?

I can confirm the first daughter, from Corpus Historiae Genealogicae
Siciliae,in Rivista Araldica(1937)505:
Giovanni Notarbartolo,bar. di Villanova(investiture 8.3.1550),di Tuzia
(10.10.1541)
x1(1515) Costanzella Omodei(fa.Puccio,bar di Villalonga) -->sons
x2 Ippolita Cardona(fa.Pietro cte di Collesano[from one of his two
marriages,or
illegitimate? -it doesn't say]) -->3 sons,several daughters

Do you know where to find a genealogy of or hints on the Basili-
familiy:I'm quite interested!

I can tell what I know about Basili family.
The "Regius Miles" Pietro Basili (dead in 1484), barone del Grano (1473)
from Palermo married Costanza Riaca (or Ariaca) from Naso. They had:
1. Antonuccio Basili married in 1504 in Messina with Antonina Bonfiglio (fa.
Nicola Bonfiglio barone di Carmito). He was the progenitor of the cadet
line.
2. Giovanni Francesco Basili (dead 1539 in Naso), barone del Grano (1484)
married: x1 (1498 in Messina) Costanza Abbate (fa. ......... Abbate, Barone
della Corte) without male sons x2 Giovanna Cardona (probably fa. Pietro
Cardona c.te di Collesano) --> two sons (Giovanni e Antonino) and two
daughters (Susanna and Beatrice: they had the same names of the Pietro
Cardona's wifes! So it's very probable that Giovanna Cardona is Pietro
Cardona's daughter).
Beatrice Basili e Cardona was abbess of Santa Margherita convent in Polizzi.
Susanna Basili e Cardona married x1 ........ x2 (1577 in Polizzi)Cola di
Guglielmo, barone di Bicini.
Giovanni Basili e Cardona, barone del Grano (1539), married (about 1540 in
Polizzi) (his first cousin?) Diana Notarbartolo e Cardona (fa. Giovanni
Notarbartolo, barone di Villanova, mother Ippolita Cardona)--> sons:
1. Francesco Basili e Cardona (born in Polizzi about 1548, dead in Palermo
1620), Jesuit, prefect of studies in Palermo; 2.Gandolfo Basili e Cardona
(born in Polizzi about 1553) barone del grano (1565).
In Polizzi the Basili family added Cardona surname and coat of arms to own
surname and coat of arms. The original Basili coat of arms had three
pillars, on the point of each a star (tinctures unknown).
These information are draw from personal researches in the State Archives of
Palermo and from an italian book about noble families of Polizzi: C.
BORGHESE "Delle Famiglie siciliane nobili e illustri vissute in Polizzi tra
il XII e il XIX secolo", 1998, Palermo.
In his book Borghese says that the first notice in Sicily about Basili
family is dated 1307, when a royal dispatch
ordered barone Pietro Basili to go to war with mounted soldiers.
Do you have other notices about Basili family?
If you are interested I can send the genealogical tree of the Basili cadet
line.
