Hello All,
A chance query on Google found the following snippet from
Farrer's Early Yorkshire Charters:
' Robert son of Robert de Eueringham, for the health
of himself and Isabel his wife, confirmed this...' [1]
This went on to indicate that Robert, the younger, died in
1246/7. This was in fact Robert de Everingham, husband of the
heiress Isabel de Birkin, and until now the earliest known
ancestor of the Everinghams of Laxton.
Should anyone of the list have access to the full text from
the subject page of EYC, those details would be of great
interest. Meanwhile, we can at least extend the Everingham
pedigree by this one generation [2].

P.S. While the fractional text presented on GoogleBooks is
often frustrating, it at least provides sufficient
detail to make some advances (or lead on to others).

[2] I have until now ascribed the following entries to Robert
the husband of Isabel de Birkin. Most likely, given the
chronology, these would be evidence concerning Robert 'the
elder' de Everingham, father-in-law of Isabel de Birkin.
' Robertus de Everingeham', held lands in Yorkshire of the
Archbishop of York by the service of 2 1/2 knights' fees,
1210-1212 [Red Book of the Exchequer, II:495]

he enfeoffed Walter by charter.

Dear John
I suspect EYC may have further (and earlier) detail about the
Everinghams, eg (snippet view from Google Books):
"...apparently the wife of Thomas father of Robert de Everingham. In
1194 she owed 20s. for the right of the arrears of her dower against
Robert de..."
In DD, Keats-Rohan says Thomas de Everingham was son of Henry de
Everingham and Gertrude, daughter of Robert fitz Askill de Ruddeston;
he was a Yorkshire landowner in 1166; "his mother gave him five
bovates in Rycton in her widowhood, confirmed by Gilbert fitz Henry
(his) brother, and, later, by Thomas's daughter Hawise".
Cheers, Michael
Another interesting snippet from EYC:
"The reference shows that there were two Roberts who succeeded Thomas
de Everingham,
and not one as in EYC, viii, p. 186. ..."

John
