In "The Royal Descent of 500 Immigrants," Gary Boyd Roberts identifies the
second wife of Sir William Plumpton of Plumpton (d. 1362) as Christiana.
In the 4th edition of "The Magna Charta Sureties, 1215" (1991), Christiana
is identified as Christian Mowbray (d. 1365), widow of Richard de Emildon,
alderman of New Castle. Does anyone have any additional information about
Christian/a which might help pin down her family of origin? Thanks in
advance!

Christian Mowbray was the daughter of John de Mowbray, (I think 2nd) Lord
Mowbray. This can be confirmed by a contemporary record, where she is named
sister of John de Mowbray. Unfortunately, I don't have my notes here and I'm
going from memory. They are buried at home; if I remember, I'll try to bring
the record in, unless someone beats me to the punch.
