ALBERIC DE VERE II, son of ALBERIC and BEATRIX.

Lord of Hedlington, Sheriff of London and Middlesex, Justice, master
Chamberlain of England. He was in high favor with King Henry I and was
constituted Great High Chamberlain of England in 1133, to hold the same fee to
himself and his heirs. He replaced Robert Malet, Lord of Eye in Suffolk, who
had been banished and disinherited from that office.

In the 5th year of Stephen, 1140, while a joint sheriff [with Richard Basset,
then Justiciary of England] of Surrey, Cambridge, Essex, and several other
counties, he was slain in a popular tumult in London. He died May 15, 1141,
was buried in Colne Priory.

Mistress of King Henry I. of England. They had a son, Reginald, who married
Beatrix, daughter of William Fitz Richard, a potent lord of Cornwall. From
this marriage there was a daughter, Matilda Fitz Richard, who married Robert,
Count of Meulent, son of Waleran II., Count of Meulent. They also had a
daughter Isabel.

daughter of HENRY and CICLEY.

1st Earl of Oxford. Third Baron by tenure, of Kensington, Count of Ghisnes,
for his fidelity to the Empress Maud, was confirmed by that princess in the
office of Great Lord Chamberlain, and all his father's territorial
possessions. He had likewise other important grants with the Earldom of
Cambridge, provided that dignity was not vested in the King of Scots, but if
it were, then he was to have his choice of the Earldoms of Oxford, Berkshire,
or Dorsetshire, all which grants being ratified by King Henry II., he was
created Earl of Oxford, with the usual grant to earls, of the third penny of
the pleas of the county. In the 12th year of King Henry II., on the levy of
the aid for portioning the king's daughter, the Earl of Oxford certified his
knight's fees to be in number twenty-eight, for which he paid £20, and in the
2nd year of King Richard I., he paid a fine of 500 marks to the king, "for the
sister of Walter de Bolebec, to make a wife for his son." In four years
afterwards he contributed £30, 2 shillings, and 6 pence for the knight's fees
he then held, towards the sum at that time raised for the ransom of the king.
The earl married (1) Euphamia Cantilupe, daughter of William de Cantilupe, by
whom he had no issue, and (2) Lucia Abrincis, daughter and heiress of William
de Abrincis.

reputed one of the "evil councillors" of that monarch.

8. JULIANA DE VERE was born Abt. 1116 in of NOR, ENG. She married HUGH
BIGOD, son of ROGER BIGOD and ALICE.
Notes for HUGH BIGOD:
First Earl of Norfolk. When his elder brother William accidently drowned with
the king's children in a shipwreck and leaving no issue, Hugh succeeded as
lord steward of the King's household to King Henry I. He was mainly
instrumental in raising Stephen, Count of Boulogne, to the throne, and was
rewarded with the earldom of East Angles [Norfolk & Suffolk] about 1140. He
was faithful in his allegiance to King Stephen and continued to enjoy royal
favor, being re-created Earl of Norfolk and suffolk by Henry II, and obtaining
a grant of the office of lord high steward of the kingdom, an office his
father had held. In 1177, as a Crusader, he made a pilgrimage to the Holy
Land, and died in 23rd of king Henry II before March.

Homer Beers James Genealogy shows a second marriage to Adeliza (Alice) Clare,
daughter of Gilbert de Tonebridge and mother of Roger.

Led the Norman invasion of Ireland and obtained the great lordship of Leinster
in 1171. Strongbow, as earl of Pembroke [1153], lord of Netherwent and lord
of Leinster [1171], was the most powerful of the marcher and Anglo-Irish
magnates under King Henry II.
