As K. Allen just pointed out in an earlier post today, this line has
been fairly well shown by Neil Thompson in a 1980 issue of _The
Genealogist_ to be false. The Robert de Harley who was father of Joan
de Harley was a different man from the Robert de H. who was the husband
of this particular Joan Corbet. See also Weis' _Ancestral Roots_, 7th
ed., line 29a, generations 33 and 32.

Karen Austin gave a line from King John of England through Fulk le
Strange, to Joan Corbet. Chris Moore responded:

Is the line good down to the two Robert de Harleys? I'm a descendant of
Fulk le Strange, 1st Lord Strange, but didn't know he was descended from
King John.

No. It cannot be proven that Margaret ferch Llywelyn was daughter of
Llywelyn ap Gruffudd by Joan. (There is absolutely no reason to prefer
this maternity to Llywelyn's other wive/mistresses.) There would be a
valid line from Henry II, through the Longespees, to Robert de Harley,
and likewise there are valid descendant of Robert de Harley and Joan
Corbet (covered in an article in a subsequent issue of the Genealogist),
but this descent from John cannot be accepted at this time.
