In the fourteenth century, three successive generations of Branscombes
from the same village were Sherrifs of Devon, as well as tax
collectors, justices, members of parliament (knights of the shire) and
freemen of Exeter.
In 1353, Richard Branscombe of Edge Barton manor in Branscombe parish,
married Margaret, widow of John de Beauchamp of Ryme (Dorset). Among
the spoils were properties in "Bokerel" and "Oulescombe" and a third
of the manor of "Woburneford", Devon.
About the same year, Ibot Branscombe, daughter of Adam, son of
Richard, and Agnes (Doddescombe), married Richard Champernowne of
Modbury.
Richard Branscombe senior was dead by 1376 and shortly after that,
possibly in 1377, his manor of Edge Barton, in Branscombe, passed to
the Wadhams of Knowestone.
By this time, the Branscombes of Branscombe had spread to the four
corners of the county and begun a slide into obscurity which continued
to the present day.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has come across this
Branscombe family, perhaps in connection with the other families
mentioned.

This is an error of Vivian's. Check out the rbodine post in the Richard
Champernoun thread, where you will find:
> Otho's father, Richard, is named in Otho's 1422 IPM as deceased.
> His mother is named as Agnes Dodescombe, widow of Adam
> Braunscombe, by whom she had a daughter Ibota. Vivian shows
> Ibota as the wife of Richard and mother of Otho which is wrong.
