Does anyone have any evidence for the identity of the mother of
Isabel de Lathom, daughter of Thomas de Lathom? (Isabel de Lathom
married Sir John Stanley (abt 1350-1413) ancestor of the Stanleys of
Alderley, Stanleys, Earls of Derby etc.)

The value of this identification in Henrietta Brady Brown's _Some
Venables of England and America_ (Cincinnati: Kinderton Press, 1961) is
uncertain, but...

on page 11, Joane, wife of Thomas de Lathom (lord) of Lathom, Lancs.,
mother of Isabel, wife of Sir John de Stanley of Lathom, is shown as
daughter of Hugh de Venables of Kinderton, Cheshire and his second wife
Katherine, daughter of Richard de Houghton (or Hoghton), of Houghton,
Lancs.

Hope this helps on the way to documentation.

Thomas Lathom did indeed marry Joan Venables as indicated above and
following his death she remarried [CP IV:205 note (c)]. Ormerod III:199
says that Isabel was Joan's daughter, but the CP ibid. says that Isabel was
dau. of Thomas' first marriage to a person name unknown. CP XII/1:249 f.,
247-251 which you mention as Weis' source, identifies Thomas as Isabel's
father (p.249) nut makes no mention of the name of the mother. There is an
interesting note, (k), on p.249 citing Ormerod II:412 which states that
John Stanley obtained a post nupt. dispensation in 1398. The suggestion is
that he and Isabel were third cousins once removed through the Mascy
family. This remote relationship between John and Isabel could come about a
number of ways, but it may have come through Isabel's mother. Joan Venables
had Mascy ancestors but (as far as I can see) not so as to create a
sufficiently close relationship to constitute a marriage impediment had
Isabel been her daughter.

Maybe someone has more recent evidence on the issue of isabel's mother.

The Feet of Fines for Yorkshire dated Quindene of Easter, 50 Edw. III, 1376
state:

Thomas de Lathum, chivaler, and Joan his wife, quer., Robert Breton, vicar of
the church of Hyton, and Thomas de la Rydynge, chaplain, def., of 4 messuages,
5 tofts, 6 1/2 carucates of land, and 4 acres of meadow in Easthaitfeld: To
hold to Thomas de Lathum and Joan and the heirs male of their bodies; remainder
to Thomas son of the same Thomas de Lathum and the heirs male of his body;
remainder to Isabel daughter of Thomas de Lathum and Joan and the heirs male of
her body; remainder to Cicely, sister of Isabel, and the heirs male of her
body; remainder to the right heirs of Thomas de Lathum.

To pin the date down, Easter in 1376 fell on Sunday, 13 April. Quindene means
the 15th day after any feast which includes the feast day, thus 27 April 1376.
Thomas de Lathom died shortly before 20 March 1382.
