I am not sure where this second line of Bassets fit in to the whole Basset
picture and what their holdings were but will check it out.
>
I show that the Gilbert Bassett who was Thomas' father was a different
Gilbert, married to Edith d'Oilly. Also, although I have no recallable
source for these, I think the Gilbert married to Egeline de Courtenay is
actually the son of Thomas, not the father.
GE> 2. Thomas Basset m. alice de Dunstanville

Philip married Hawise de Louvaine, daughter of Matthew de Louvaine.
Unfortunately, I can't recall where I got this info.

The only Miles de Stapleton I have was born ca. 1357, too late for you.
I have none of the second group of Basset(t)s listed.
GE>I have Gilbert BASSET's wife as Edith d'OILLY (c.1110 - >1165), daughter of
GE>Robert II d'OILLY & Edith FitzFORNE.
It's a mish mash of two GIlberts. Thomas father is the GIlbert you
mention while his son Gilbert was married to Egeline de Courtenay.
I have Gilbert BASSET's wife as Edith d'OILLY (c.1110 - >1165), daughter of
Robert II d'OILLY & Edith FitzFORNE.
Gilbert is son of Richard BASSET (c.1050 - > 1086); son of Osmund BASSET (>
1020 - > 1056)
Always open to refute though

I also have the Thomas Basset line in my chart, leading to both Aline
and
Alice/Mabel (1184-1263) who married William Malet. But I have two other
Basset/Bassett lines that I've been wondering about as well. One is
Ralph
Basset (1300-41), married to Joan Sturdon, whose daughter Joan Basset
married Thomas Aylesbury.
The other is:
1. Ralph Bassett (1215-65) m. Margaret de Someri
2. Maud m. John de Grey
2. Ralph Bassett (1242-99/1300) m. Hawise
3. Ralph Bassett (1299/1300-1342) m. Joan de Grey
4. Margaret Bassett (c.1280-1337) m. Edmund
Stafford
Since Margaret is given as older than her father, there is clearly
something
wrong here, at least in the details. Can anyone help me sort this out
and
tell me if or how these lines are related?

The Ralph (d.1341) who married Joan was Ralph Basset of Great Weldon. CP
II:11 though CP does not identify Joan.
The Drayton and Weldon lines descend from Richard Basset of Drayton
(d.1135/46) and his wife , Maud Ridel dau. and heir of Geoffrey Ridel of
Drayton by his wife Geva dau. of Hugh "Lupus" earl of Chester (d.1101).
Richard Basset of Drayton was granted Great Weldon after 1122. Richard's
eldest son, Geoffrey, took for himself the name 'Ridel' but his successors
resumed the use of 'Basset'.
The Weldon succession. Richard of Drayton and Great Weldon (d.1135/46) -
Geoffrey (d.1180) - Richard (d.1217) - Ralph (d.1258) - Richard (d.1276) -
Ralph (d.1291) - Richard (d.1314) - Ralph (d.1341). I J Sanders *English
Baronies* pp.49-50, CP II: 9-11.
The Drayton succession. Richard of Drayton and Great Weldon (d.1135/46) -
Ralph (d.1160) - Ralph (d.1211) - Ralph (d.1254/61) - Ralph (d.1265) - Ralph
(d.1299). His dau., Margaret, was eventually heir in her issue of her great
nephew Ralph (d.1390). CP II:1 and Note (b), 2-3.
Thre Bassets of Sapcote and of Blore descend from the youngest son of
Richard Basset and Maud Ridel. His name was William.
I hope this is of some help.

Yes, thanks. It helps a lot.
