For those interested in the Newdegate line, the following is from the

Will of Thomas Newdegate of Wevillffelde, Sussex at PRO PROB 11/43.
Written 4 Apr 1559. Probate 11 Dec 1559.

The "Legacys to be annexed to Mr Newdegates will" included the following:

Item I will to Alice Saunder' my aunte in Buckingh'm shere who hath the
kepinge of my ii daughters, as my gifte I give her in
money xl s.
Item I give to George Vavysor my late wifes brother x s. a stayne ord
woodek[n]y. . and a dagger
Item I give to Thomas Vavisor my said like brother x s. as my gift and a
woodky. .
Item I give to Dorothy aChamber my wife's daughter x s.
Item to Anne her sister x s.
Item to John aChamber x s.
Item to Trystrame his brother vi s. viii d.
to Edward P'ker one of my wife's sons by Mr. John Parker v s.
to Thomas P'ker his brother iii s. iv d.
Item I give to Eve aChamber my wife's daughter x s.

Certain remainders were left to the children of his sister Anne
(Skinner) and the children of his Pope sister (deceased).

I believe that his Pope sister is Elizabeth who was the wife of Edmund
Pope (d. 1552).

Executor: Thomas Newdegate (my son)

Supervisors: John Skinner of Reigate (my brother in law)
John Newdegate of Lincolns Inn (my kinsman)
John Skinner junior

No mention is made of his father Walter, his mother Isabella Hampden or
his wife Catherine Hampden.

Maclean provides no source for his identifying William's parents as
Walter & Isabella. He also names Walter as the father of Anne the wife
of John Skinner with again no source stated.

I suggest that Ronnie Bodine used Sir John Maclean's Memoir of the
Family of Poyntz pedigrees, not realising that they are somewhat unreliable.

Anyone using either Maclean to assemble databases, either private or
published (shudder), should thoroughly check any available Primary
sources to ensure accuracy.

My interest here is in the Skinner family descending from Jane Gaynsford
wife of Richard Barlee (d. 1500/1) of Havering at Bower Essex and later
Stapleford Abbots Essex and their daughter Katherine mother of John
Skinner sen. above. This Jane married, secondly, John Skinner
grandfather of John Skinner sen.

Later

Jane Farnfield, daughter of William Farnfield of [Eastbourne] Sussex,
was the second wife of John Parker of Ratton who died 5 Oct 1558.
