From "Kin of Mellcene Thurman Smith, Call #;
"5. John de Beauchamp, born July 25, 1274, who was summoned to
Parliament as a baron by the style of "Johanni de Bello Campo de
Somerset" on Dec. 29, 1299, 28th of Edward I, to Aug. 24, 1336, 9th of
Edward III, whereby he may be held to have become Lord Beauchamp. He
was knighted with the Prince of Wales May 22, 1306. In 1321 he
succeeded to the extensive landed estates of his mother, Cicely de
Vivonia de Beauchamp. He was Governor of Bridgewater Castle 1325. He
married Joan de Audley, daughter of James de Audley and Ela de
Longspee; daughter of William de Longspee and Idonae de Camville; son
of William de Longspee; son of Henry II, King of England, by Rosamund
Clifford. John Beauchamp died Oct. 20, 1336."
Was Joan De Audeley another wife to John?

Note Doug Richardson in WEIS (1992): "According to VCH Oxford V 160
Alice Basset's three Bisset (Biset) chn. were coh. of Alice's sis.
Philippa Basset, but not the Malet chn.; so they [the latter] must
have been chn. of an earlier wife" (Line 233A:28, p 198). Any
thoughts?

I have a link to a John Cobham, died 49 Edward iii, 1376(?). His daughter and co-heiress Elizabeth is shown in a pedigree diagram as having married Sir Edward Kendall
see http://freespace.virgin.net/ecliptica.ww/meet_the_ancestors/waldegrave_pedigree.html
Is this John Cobham possibly the same person as the John de Cobham who married Joan Beauchamp?
Thanks for any pointers
CB
Hello CB,
It is possible that the Elizabeth Cobham shown in the table you mentioned
is a daughter of Sir John Cobham, 2nd Lord Cobham and his wife Joan Beauchamp;
however, the table has at least two errors, in that
1) The 2nd Lord Cobham died (per my notes) 25 Feb 1354; his son was
summoned to Parliament from 20 Sep 1355, and was in fact the
3rd Lord Cobham;
2) The fact that this son became the 3rd Lord Cobham means that any
sister would not have been regarded as 'co-heiress'.
She also could not have been a daughter of the 3rd Lord Cobham at any
rate, as he died 10 Jan 1407/08, and was succeeded by the descendant of his
only daughter, Joan Cobham (married to John de la Pole).
The arms shown in the table are those of Cobham, Lord Cobham; perhaps the
John Cobham in question was in fact a cousin. A comparison to the pedigree of
Cobham in the Visitation record (presuming its inclusion in the Kent volume)
might well help identify this individual.
Good luck, and good hunting.
John
Thanks for any pointers
