Argote de Molina in his "Nobleza de Andalucia" - 1588, gives the following
origins of the family:

These early generations are problematic. Perhaps the best
analysis of these early people is Balparda's work.

He was NOT Infante of Aragon, as he lived before Aragon became a
Kingdom. His sons were trusted vassals of the Kings of Viguera,
and this relationship perhaps evolved into a royal descent, where
none can be shown to have existed.

These individuals are modeled after brothers who, as I said, were
vassals of the King of Viguera, and as such, of his overlord,
Sancho el Mayor of Navarre. They were implicated in the death of
Garci Sanchez of Castile. (Note that they have slipped in time.)
Where exactly the later Ayala lineage plugs into these brothers
is not certain.

This marriage is problematic, as it violates the system of
patronymics, and recent work on theVIscaya show no such descent.

> Sancho Perez de Gamboa m Andrea Diaz de Mena (dau. of Dia Sanchez de Mena, a

This is traditional, but there is no Dia Sanchez de Ayala in the
Ayala pedigree.

Salazar y Castro studies this, and concluded that Pedero Lopez de
Ayala was not son of Lope el Chico, but a distant cousin. That
being said, the connection of the Ayala line to the earlier Haro
line cannot be supported, so for the time being, they cannot be
considered scions of Haro at all.

> Sancho Lopez de Ayala m Aldonza de Velasco (dau. of Dia Sanchez de Velasco)

Salazar y Castro concludes she was named Velascuri, not Velasco.

This is well documented. Sancha Fernandez was daughter of Fernan
Peres Barroso (by Mencia Garces de Sotomayor), and granddaughter
of Pedro Gomes Barroso.

(who was brother of Sancho)

I would only add to this that the account in Argote de Molina is derived
ultimately from Fernan Perez / Pero Lopez de Ayala's memoir. The
traditional ascent of the Ayala family is corrected to some extent in Luís
de Salazar y Castro's manuscript _Historia genealógica de la casa de
Haro_, of which a relevant part is published as _Historia genealógica de
la casa de Haro: Señores de Llodio, Mendoza, Orozco y Ayala_ (Archivo
documental español, 15, Madrid, 1959).

Yes. As I said, Balparda discusses them.

I should have been more clear. It is not the marriage itself
that is questionable, but Alberta's ancestry. It could be that
this particular family was one of the earliest ones to abandon
the use of the factual patronymic (as, it would appear, were the
Carrillo clan), or that Argote fell into the trap of later
spanish historians, such as the brothers Garcia Carraffa, in not
recognizing the strictness with which this system was applied in
early years. That doesn't address, however, the other problem,
which is that there is no place for Garcia Sanz de Horozco in the
first dynasty of Vizcaya-Orozco, as reconstructed by Salazar y
Castro, who certainly had access to the same sources as Argote,
and has been followed by more recent authors.
