Robert Sheffield it states in the College of Arms in 1626 that he
(Robert) was the grandfather of Edmund the first Lord Sheffield.
Has anyone any information on this?

Dear Lorraine,
Your question could be read easily the wrong way. The College of
Arms (I hope) did not say that Sir Robert Sheffield married Elena
Babington? I will display what I have for the first generations of
this family, source Gerald Paget's book on the ancestors of Prince
Charles. This book relies heavily on Burke's Peerage, thus beware!

Thank you Leo for your help on the Sheffield lineage. I have a question
for you all: is Lady Anne de Vere (as mentioned above) in the same
lineage as Alberic de Vere, Earl of Oxford (ie: was he the first); as I
have him (Alberic) being the brother of Juliana who was the first wife
of Hugh Bigod by whom he had a son Roger (in the 12th-13th centuries).
Many thanks for any help at all on this lineage.
