Here is the direct ancestry of Lodisio Doria, from a rather recent earlier post of mine:

1. Arduino, probably related to the Arduinici (my guess; suggest a better one). M. Oria della Volta, d. of Corrado della Volta. This was around 1050. Parents of:

2. Pietro, Robaldo and Ansaldo Doria (I). Follows Ansaldo. Father of:

3. Genualdo [=Zenoardo] Doria, attested with his brother Martino, who was a friar or abbot, it seems, in 1125 in Genoa; given as *de filiis Ariae*, roughly, grandchildren of Auria/Oria.

BTW, due to the many connections between those people and Spain since early times, I suppose that this name, Auria/Oria is in fact an import. Any suggestion? Next,

4. Ansaldo (II) Doria. Battilana begins it here (preceding generations are given as in the traditional genealogies; characters are attested but no precise links are provided). Married twice; first Anna ... with issue. Second wife seems to have been a dąOria cousin. No issue given. Consul of Genoa in 1134, commander of an expedition to Spain in 1147, last heard of in 1156. Son:

5. Guglielmo Doria, attested in 1174, 1182 and in 1190. Father of two Sinibaldo Doria, who continues the line that eventually gets to Brazil (still extant in Genoa, I think), and:

6. Montanaro Doria, attested between 1185 and 1248 (Battilanaąs dates). Next:

7. Percivale Doria, attested in 1235, dec. 1275. Notice the name: there will be an Isotta two generations after him. He is given as a Provençal poet, and a fiery [can I translate feroce for fiery? It at least respects the assonance] Ghibelline general, who died in battle against the Guelphs; lord of the marca of Ancona.

He is one the reasons why I suspect that this branch of the family was, as they say, infected with Catharism. Iąve asked a top-ranking French nobleman, who chairs a History Academy in the old Provence region and who is directly descended from those who fought against Innocenzo III to take a look at that for me; he was kind enough to oblige. Letąs see what comes out of this. Percivale m. Adelasia... Father of:

8. Simone Doria, also given by Battilana as dec. 1275, probably next to his father. Follows:

9. Paolo Doria, *capostipite* of branch II of the Dorias in Battilanaąs scheme. Attested between 1275 and 1301. 19th century Almanachs de Gotha give him as the oldest attested family member, which certainly isnąt true; I wonder why. M. twice, first, Argenta, d. of Emmanuele Zaccaria; second, Giovannetta, d. of Francesco Visconti.

From the first marriage,

10. Leonardo Doria (I), dec. 1332 or before 1321. Here she is, one of them: Isotta [Isolde], no family name given. (They had to be Cathars, Waldensians or whatever; see below for more on this.) Parents of:

11. Lodisio Doria (I), attested between 1332 and 1353. Father of:

12. Leonardo Doria (II), mentioned in 1379. Married relative Argenta Doria - sister of the first Clemenza Doria (name of the lady who came to Brazil much later) - and daughters of Galeotto Doria.

Remember Dante, in the Paolo & Francesca episode, ŚGaleotto fu il libro...ą These people were infected with the intellectual climate of the times. Well, Galeotto Doria was gson of Branca Doria, placed by Dante in the depths of hell.

Parents of,

13. Lodisio (II) Doria, attested between 1404 and 1410. M. Francesca, d. of Giovanni di Pietro Usodimare. then,

14. Leonardo Doria (III), m. Caterina di Cattaneo Vivaldi. And, at last,

15. Lodisio Doria (III). Iąm identifying this one with the Cadiz banker who supported Columbus in 1492, and who had been in the Madeira in 1480. Father of (probably illegitimate, I guess). Identification follows from the fact that this Lodision is from the Doria branch that later settled in Southern France. Follows,

16. Leonor Doria, who m. Rui Gonçalves de Velosa.

Descended from those are the Teixeira Doria family, with two brisures in the male line, and the França Doria family, still around, with three brisures. Without the Doria name you can also found the descendants of Jeronimo de Ornelas de menezes e Vasconcelos, in the Brazilian South. Another descendant is ŚFarroupilhaą leader (a popular uprising that led to a local civil war) Bento Gonçalves, also in the Brazilian South.

Let me add that one father Juan de Oria [=Giovanni dąOria] who was condemned to obsequious silence by the Inquisition around 1520 - he was a follower of Isabel de la Cruz - was also and most assuredly a member of this branch; I identify him with the same named great-grandnephew of Lodisio given in Battilana.
