Complete Peerage 9 (1936): 129 (sub Montfort) states that Peter de
Montfort, 3rd Lord Montfort, is "said to have married Margaret,
daughter of Thomas de Furnivalle [Lord Furnivalle]."
That this marriage took place is proven by extracts from the Annals of
Crokesden Abbey, co. Stafford, which appeared in Collectanea Top. et
Gen., vol. 2 (1835). On page 307 of that source under the year 1339,
the following entry appears:
"Margareta filia primogenita Dni Thome de Furnivalle, dicte D[omi]na
de Montfort, immatura morte preventa est apud Shefeeld, quinto kal.
Octobr. die Lune ante fest. Sancti Michaelis, anno etatis sue XIX'mo."
5 Kal. Oct. falls on 27 September, so it would appear that Margaret de
Furnival, Lady Montfort, died 27 September 1339, age 19, just before
the feast of St. Michael.
Elsewhere the editor specifically states that Margaret's birth in 1320
is recorded in the Abbey records, but he evidently did not transcribe
it. Perhaps her birth record is found in the earlier transcript of
the Abbey records by Dugdale, which is found in his Monasticon.
Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah

I am a new lurker seeking information on the descent
of the family du Roeulx:
I am attempting to trace the Roet line (as in
Katherine Roet, d. 1403, also known as Katherine
Swynford).
What I have is from Turner's Plantagenet Ancestry,
which has the line (no connections to my Katherine,
alas) as:
Gauthier de Roeux m. (ii?) Adele de Roucy (Guise)
1. Ida de Roeux m. Rasse de Gavre III
Bertrand (Rasse IV) d. 1150
m. Ida de Chievre
Bertha de Gavre
2. Beatrice de Roeux m. Arnulf of Hainault
Eustace I de Roeux, d. 1192
m. Marce de Mons
Eustace II de Roeux
m. Bertha de Gavre (above)
Eustace III de Roeux
m. ____ de Mortaigne
This last Eustace de Roeux has issue a daughter de
Roeux who marries Jacques de Condes.
This appears to have the obvious problem of second (?)
cousins marrying. Additionally, records appear to
admit to a Fastre de Ruet (dies in English forces in
1326), Eustace IV de Ruet, and an Ernoul de Ruet (ca.
1369; this from the Cartulaire de Comtes du Hainault I
think), while Froissart gives for Katherine's lineage:
Huon de Ruet --> Jean de Ruet --> Payne de Roet
Payne having issue:
Walter Roet (in Black Prince's household)
Philippa Roet (marries the poet Chaucer)
Isabel/Elizabeth (granted prebend of St. Waudru)
Katherine Roet (marries Swynford & Gaunt).
I am sorry if I have not used proper indenting in the
above trees (I am obviously a rank amateur), but does
anyone have comment on this geneaology or suggestions
on sources to consult?
Many kind thanks for your consideration,
Judy Perry
