Complete Peerage, 12 Pt. 2 (1959): 552-553 (sub Westmorland) indicates
that Edith Sandys, daughter of Sir William Sandys, of the Vine,
married (1st) "in the royal presence" (as his 2nd wife) Ralph Neville,
styled Lord Neville, only son and heir apparent of Ralph Neville, 3rd
Earl of Westmorland. Curiously, no date is provided for this
marriage.
Descriptive Catalogue of Ancient Deeds, 4 (1902): 174 has a deed dated
1 September 1491, which indicates that Ralph and Edith were married by
that date. This date must be very close to the actual date of
marriage, as C.P. indicates that Ralph Neville's 1st wife, Mary
Paston, died "about Christmas 1489."
Edith Sandys subsequently married (2nd) Sir Thomas Darcy, Lord Darcy
of Temple Hurst. C.P. 12 Pt. 2 (1959): 552-553 indicates that Edith
and Thomas were married between 15 July 1499 and 4 Mar. 1499/1500. In
a footnote, the editor states they were "probably married before 7
Dec. 1499" and cites three sources. Descriptive Catalogue of Ancient
Deeds, 3 (1900): 227 has a deed dated 7 Dec. 1499, which deed
indicates that Edith widow of Ralph late Lord Neville and Thomas
Darcy, knight, were in fact already married.
Curiously, under the Darcy account in C.P., it states only that Edith
Sandys and Thomas Darcy were married "before 1520." [Reference: C.P. 4
(1916): 74 (sub Darcy)].
