f) HUGH VIIIa (-1169) de Lusignan m Orengarde. Originally he was
omitted from early pedigrees.
g) GEOFFREY (-aft 1202); older than GUY & probably older than
AMALRIC II; In 1189 at siege of Acre; On 11 May 1191 arrived
at Limassol, with his br king GUY; No doubt they were at
king RICHARD's wedding 12 May 1191. GEOFFREY is called Count
of LUSIGNAN by Steven Runciman (presumably as guardian of
HUGH IX?) and one of king RICHARD's leading vassals in Fr; In
Sept 1191 was at battle of Arsuf; In 1197 he was governor of
Jaffa; In 1197 (before GUY's death) he returned to Fr. In
1202 the Poitevins including ARTHUR of Brittany (with
Eleanor, both issue of K JOHN of England's br GEOFFREY),
GEOFFREY of Lusignan and his nephew HUGH IX were besieging
Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine at Mirabeau castle, nr Poitiers.
On 1 Aug K JOHN captured 200 of them in a lightning strike.
The Lusignans, luckier than the rest were ransomed.
Perhaps this GEOFFREY is the GEOFFROI de Lusignan mentioned
above under Mythology whose wife was Mevrant.
From David Crouch'e book "William Marshall"it is stated that
Patrick d'Everoux 1st earl of Salisbury was killed in 1168,
and William Marshall taken prisoner following an ambush by a
party of Poitevians led by the Lusignan brothers Geoffrey and
Guy. Geoffrey's brother Guy could not be more than 8 years
old (in 1180 he described as a foolish young boy), so
unlikely to be leading the Poitvians. Possibly `The Histoire
de Guillaume le Mareschal', which details this ambush has
been incorrectly translated and may mean "Geoffrey, brother
of Guy" not "Geoffrey and his brother Guy....", or perhaps
these brothers are from an earlier generation.
One e-mail gives him and his issue as follows:

an alliance with PHILIP II K of Fr against K JOHN resulting
in JOHN's loss of his continental possessions. HUGH may have
