Paul's _Scots Peerage_ cites Reg. Mag. Sig., 20 Dec. 1488/9, a royal
charter, when discussing the legitimizing of the children of James Stewart,
1st Earl of Buchan, and Margaret Murray. What is Reg. Mag. Sig.? Is this a
published compilation of royal charters for Scotland? Any clues would be
appreciated. Thank you.

*** This major 11-volume work is known both by its Latin title and
English translation:
Registrum Magni Sigilli Regum Scotorum
=

The Register of the Great Seal of Scotland.

It is basically a national register of charters which were recorded
under the Great Seal of the nation. It can, but does not always,
include charters found in other sources (private collections,
registers of charters of abbeys and other religious bodies, protocol
books, etc.), but is the first and main source to check for Scottish
charters.
