Sir ROBERT STAUNTON, Kt., of Staunton Harold, Leics., Living c. 1363. He
had issue: HoP 1386-1421, II, p 467

1.JOHN, of whom we presently.
2.Thomas, M.P., of Radbourne, Derbys., & Sutton Bonnington, Notts., Born c.
1378. M 1st by March 1397 Joan. M 2nd by Nov. 1411 Elizabeth, d. of Thomas
Merdley, of Hathern, Leics., & Sutton Bonnington, Notts. He & his 1st wife
were parties to a conveyance of land on Ashton-upon-Trent, March 1397. He
was Esquire to King Richard II by 1398, but changed sides to the new regime
the following year. In the spring of 1403 he & a personal contingent of 6
archers campaigned in North Wales with Prince Henry. On his elder
brother's death in 1405, followed by a long minority, he assumed control of
the family estates. M.P. for Notts., 1411. Master Forester of Dartmoor,
Devon, before March 1413 to 30 July 1433. Appointed Comptroller of the
Pipe, 1 May 1413. He took part in the invasion of France in the summer of
1415 together with a small contingent of archers. Appointed Constable of
Melbourne, 8 April 1418. Died 1436. He had issue by his 2nd wife: HoP

Royal Household & held office as Marshall of the Hall. Appointed Master
Forester of Dartmoor, in succession to his father, 1433. Constable of
Melbourne, 1436. Appointed Joint Constable of Castle Donnington, with his
son John, 1444. Sheriff of Notts., & Derbys., 1440 & 1448. M.P. for
Notts., 1447. He was entrusted with keeping William de la Pole, Duke of
Suffolk, in the Tower, Feb. to March 1450. Pardoned for past
transgressions, Feb. 1462. Died 1483. HoP 1386-1421, II, p 468 Acheson,

Margery (she M 2nd Thomas Walsh, of Wanlep, Leics., by whom she was the
mother of Elizabeth Walsh who M as his 1st wife Sir Ralph Shirley, Kt., d
1513 – See SHIRLEY), d. of Richard Byron, of Lancs. M.P. for Grimsby,
1447. M.P. for Leics., 1450 & 1467. From 1453 to 1457 he was Steward for
the Earl of Stratford in Leics., & Notts. Died before Aug. 1489. Acheson,

MARGARET STAUNTON, Born 1405. She was heir of her brother, Thomas, on his
death & as a result the Staunton Harold estate passed to the Shirley
family. M (by papal dispensation dated 23 Sept. 1423) Sir RALPH SHIRLEY,
Kt., of Lower Ettington, Warw. & Shirley, Derbys. (Born 1408 & Died 1466).
