Hello Bill,
The emperor Andronicus [Andronikos] (1183-1185) was definitely NOT the son of the emperor John Comnenus; he was either a nephew or grandnephew (I don't have my sources to hand to indicate exactly what the lineage was).
For a good if brief read on his career, see Runciman's History of the Crusades [more details: Ostrogorsky, History of the Byzantine State].
I will check out the details later, and post same if someone else of the list does not do so first.
Good luck, and good hunting.
John
He is correct. It was Isaak brother, not son, of John II
who was the father of Andronicus. So is Paul Theroff
correct, and so are my notes correct. I stupidly misread my
notes, and I apologize to John and to any others I may have
misled, and to Paul Theroff for mis-citing his file.
You are *beginning* to understand your limitations. <g>
It's always good to see some progress.
But, I notice you are still trusting websites, rather than consulting
print sources.

"Young whelks and winkles, in pubs, do it, Little sponges in their tubs
do it. Let's do it, let's fall in love. Cold salmon, quite 'gainst
their wish, do it, Even lazy jellyfish do it, Let's do it, let's fall in
love. The most select schools of cod do it, Though it shocks 'em I
fear, Sturgeon, thank God, do it, Have some caviar dear. In shady
shoals, English soles do it, Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love." ---- Cole Porter, Yale '13 -- 1928
