Using mainly IPMs, I have come up with several Loudham family groups and
individuals who appear to be connected in some way (the connection as of
yet unknown). Here they are, in a rough chronological order:
*Nottingham branch*
(N1) John de Loudham: died c1318 [10]; married Alice ___ [10]; possessed
lands in (Nottingham) Loudham, Catthorp, Gunthorp, Bulcot, Bildisthorp,
Goverton, Neuton, Shelforde, (Essex) Blunteshale, (Lincoln) Marton,
Wintertake, and Ryby [10].
CHILD: John de Loudham: born c1314 [10]
*First Suffolk-Norfolk branch*
(1S1) Roger de Loudham: died 15 Mar 1347 [13]; married Maud ___ [11] (held
lands in Shyringham, Norfolk, for life [in possession of Richard de Grey
of Codnore] [11]; died before 1347 [11,13]); Roger held lands in Lound and
Herlyngflet, Suffolk (the latter held of Sir John de Loudham - probably of
Second Suffolk-Norfolk or Derby branch) [13].
CHILD: Roger de Loudham: born c1333 [13]
*Second Suffolk-Norfolk branch*
(2S1) John de Loudham: apparently died before 1372 [2]; married Joan ___
[2] (died c1372 [2]); possessed lands in (Suffolk) Loudham, Great Glemham,
Little Glemham, (Norfolk) Osmondeston, Stuston, and Frense [2]. A John
de Loudham, perhaps this man, held lands in Loudham (Suffolk) of Oliver de
Ingham for a quarter of a knight's fee in 1344 [12]. CHILD: (2S2) Thomas
[2,3 (also [17], but see below)].
(2S2) Thomas de Loudham: apparently died v.p. [2,3], though visitation
calls him "Sir Thomas Lowdham, knight, son & heir" [17].
CHILDREN: (2S3) John [2,3], (2S4) Thomas [4,6]
(2S3) John de Loudham: born c1350 [2,3]; died c1374 [4]; held lands in
Osmundeston, Stuston, and Frense, Norfolk [4]. NOTE - the visitation(s)
appears to merge this John with #2S1 above, describing the wife of this
John as Jane, daughter and heir of Sir William Kelvedon of Braxsted in
Essex. This MIGHT be the same person as Joan, wife of 2S1, but the lands
in Essex don't appear in inquisitions until generation 2S6 below.
(2S4) Sir Thomas de Loudham: born c1355 [4,6]; died c1385 [7]; married
Maud/Matilda ___ [7] (she remarried c1389 Sir Robert Corbet [1]); he died
possessed of lands in (Suffolk) Orford, Todenham [see unconnected Suffolk
below], (Norfolk) Osmundiston, Stuston, and Frense [7].
CHILD: (2S5) John [7,17]
(2S5) John de Loudham: born c1377/8 [7]; married ____.
CHILD: (2S6) Jane/Joan [17]
(2S6) Jane/Joan de Loudham: died 23 Jun 1499/1500 [15]; married Ralph
Blennerhassett [17]; possessed of lands in Boylandes (listed under Suffolk
and Norfolk), Todenham (Suffolk), Halvergate (Suffolk), Frense (Norfolk),
and Kelveden Hall (in Braksted, Essex) [15].
CHILD: John Blennerhassett [15,17]: born c1432 [15].
*Unconnected Suffolk-Norfolk Loudhams*
(U1) Sir William de Loudham: held land in Todenham, Suffolk, 10 Aug 1375
[5] (is this the grandfather of Walter de Stratton?)
(U2) John de Loudham: in 1378 claimed (unsuccessfully) ferry rights and
lands in Herlyngflet (Suffolk) and Hatesro (Norfolk) in right of his
ancestor, "Robert de Loudham, clerk" [16]. Note - while the claim was
disallowed, apparently the descent was accepted.
*Derby branch*
(D1) Sir John de Loudham: died c1386/7 [8]; married Isabel le Breton (born
c1324; daughter and heir of Robert le Breton [died c1350] of Walton,
Calal, Brymington, and Roudiches (Derby)) [14]; possessed lands in Walton,
Brymyngton, Whytyngton, and Rodyche (Derby) [8].
CHILDREN: (D2) John [8], (D3) Isabel [9], (D4) Margaret [9].
(D2) Sir John de Loudham: born c1357 [8]; died c1389/90 [9]; possessed
lands in Walton (Derby) [9].
(D3) and (D4) Isabel de Loudham (born c1360) and Margaret de Loudham (born
1362); coheiresses [9]

According to Thoroton's /The Antiquities of Nottinghamshire/ (1790-1796,
reprinted 1972), vol. III, pp. 25-30, at least two of my "branches" of the
original post can be connected. Apparently, D1 of the Derby branch is
identical to the son of N1 of the Nottingham branch. According to his
secondary source, Alice, the wife of N1, was a daughter of Sir Robert de
Kirketon "in Holand" (died 1345). One wonders if there is some connection
here with the land in Kirketon in Norfolk/Suffolk inherited by the
Stratton family from Sir William de Loudham (though Kirketon seems to be a
fairly common place name). Thoroton also tacks on a couple of Sir Walter
de Loudhams to the first generations of this family.
