Have been told a person was from Petrograd -- no mention of Russia,
Ukraine, or any other country. That's the only information known.

The family lore is as follows:

1 Hershel "Harry" Gold
b. Bet. 1878 - 1879, Grodno, Russia [Belarus]
+ Mashkeh "Mamie" Kanterovsky
b. Abt. 1883, Bialystock, Russia (Poland)

2 Anne Gold
b. September 10, 1903, Petrograd

2 Mac Gold
b. 1904, Petrograd

[Rest of the kids born in NY]

So where is Petrograd most likely to be?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions made,

Petrograd is simply another name for St. Petersburg (both names meaning
"Peter's City"). It was renamed Petrograd from 1914-1924 before being
further renamed Leningrad by the Soviets. Following the fall of the S.U. ,
it has now gone back to being St. Petersburg.

So, in answer to your question, may I "suggest" that Petrograd is "most
likely to be" where St. Petersburg now stands?

The Russians called it Petrograd during W.W.I, translating Sankt
Peterburg from German into Russian.
