One possible hint which you may already know, The word "Groh" is an acronym
for the great Lithuanian Sage, Rabbi Elijah of Vilna also known as the Vilna
Gaon.

You may wish to check you family name in some of the fine works recording the
genealogy of the Vilna Gaon such as Anfai Elihau (Eliahu's Branches) written
by Chaim Freedman or another work of excellent scholarship on the same
subject written by Dr. Neil Rosenstein. (Neil can be reached at
