Unfortunately, because he was technically a German national, he was
forced to stay in a camp on the Isle of Mann for two years (probably
1939-1941). He became a British subject, married (wife's name unknown),
and had two daughters, names unknown. One of these daughters married
Marcel MARCEAU, the famous mime. (Yes, Marcel MARCEAU is Jewish, as is,
I assume, his daughter, actress Sophie MARCEAU, star of the recent James
Bond flick "The World is Not Enough", among other films.)
My great-grandfather and he (Marcel MANN, that is) corresponded for
several years, and then our two families eventually lost touch. I'd
love to fill in some missing information on our family tree. So, does
anyone have any information on how to find out more about Marcel
MARCEAU's wife and in-laws? The only information I've been able to find
online has been about him or his art. And writing a letter to either
Marcel or Sophie might be tossed out as yet another fan letter, although
I suppose I could always try. Any suggestions?

Ack! You're right- I just checked the Internet Movie Database
(http://www.imdb.com/ - a very useful site!), and indeed, Sophie is not
Marcel's daughter and probably not Jewish either. The site, however,
does say that Marcel (who *is* Jewish) had three wives (still married to
the third; the other two he divorced) and two sons by his first wife.
Neither the first wife's nor the kids' names are mentioned. I assume
that this is the wife whose maiden name was MANN who is my distant
relative.
<sigh> This is all getting complicated. I'm just going to write to his
agent and hope for the best.
Thanks to everyone who replied!
