The name Tillie is a derivation from the woman's Hebrew name of :
Tehilla.

Tehilla is the Hebrew word for psalm. In Hebrew the plural of Tehilla is
Tehillium (in English = Psalms. You will find the word Tehillium if you look
in a Sidur (Jewish Prayer Book) or Tanakh (Jewish Bible) or Chumash (Book
form of the Torah) which include the Book of Psalms.

My Great-Grandmother was named Tehilla and was called Tillie. Also, I have
met a few other women named this.

Slifkin stated that the name Tillie is derived from Mathilda. Which is
correct for the source of its derivation from European Christian names.
Tillie is also a known nickname for Natalie or Nathalie.

Tehilla is a very uncommon name among Ashkenazim. Although quite common among
ladies from the Sepharadi community. I have never it abbreviated to Tillie. I
have heard Teela as an abbreviation
The Chumash (Pentateuch) does not contain the Book of Psalms. Only the five book
Genesis to Deutronomy inclusive
