Rabbi ABRAHAM-ABBA-JOSEF of Soroka was father of Rabbi SHEMARYAH
WEINGARTEN, who lived Libeshai. He married granddaughter of YEHIEL MICHEL
of Zlotchov. Their son was Dayan YEHIEL MICHEL WEINGARTEN, who lived
Libeshei, grandfather of CHAIM AZRIEL FIALKOV, lived Serniki, married
GITTL-RIVKA CHEMERINSKI of Motol. They had seven sons; first five changed
surnames (to avoid military service) to SHAPIRO, GOLDWEITZ, ROSENSWEIG,
BERMAN and OZER/EZER WEIZMAN. Other two were JOSEPH and CHAIM. Ozer's son
was CHAIM WEIZMANN, first president of Israel. Joseph or Chaim was father
of ISADORE FIALKOV, b.1885, lived Pinsk, father of HERMAN/CHAIM FIALKOV of
Great Neck, NY.
The above information is mainly from Jehuda Reinhartz: "Chaim Weizmann,
the making of a Zionist leader". Conflicting evidence in a letter to Herman
from Doris Guriel of Tel Aviv states that Chaim Fialkov only had six sons.
Further conflict comes from a letter to Debra Wolraich from Ofra
Perlmutter, curator of the Weizmann Archives in Rehovot. She says that
Rachel Leah Weizmann's parents were "Frouma Tchemerinsky, daughter of
Moshe-Avigdor Tchemerinsky of Poretchy, and Yechiel-Michl Tchemerinsky, son
of Moshe-Yitzhak Tchemerinsky of Poretchy. It seems that Moshe-Avigdor and
Moshe-Yitzhak were cousins. Chaim Azriel's father was Falk Fialkov from
Cereniki and it seems his mother was Malka. Falk Fialkov's second marriage
was to Rachel Weingarten, whose daughter from her first marriage to Feivel
Tchemerinsky, Gittel-Rivka Tchemerinsky, was married to Chaim-Azriel
Fialkov. One of the children from this marriage was Ezer Fialkov-Weizmann,
the father of Dr Weizmann."
Norman Rose, in "Chaim Weizmann " (Viking Press) states that Chaim was
the third son of Ozer and Rachel Leah. Ozer was born in Syerniki, and moved
to Motol for religious studies, where Chaim was born 27.11.1874, one of 12
siblings, nine of whom went to university. Ozer built rafts on the Bug and
floated them down the Vistula; he died in 1911 in his early 60s, and Rachel
Leah in 1939 in Haifa aged 87. Her parents were Michael Yikhail (died 1887)
and Fuma, and Chaim stayed with them between the ages of 5 and 8. Ozer had
younger sisters Bracha and Bila.
In 1885 Chaim was the first from Motol to attend the gymnasium in Pinsk,
where he went with his elder brother Feival.
Hope this helps.
