I posted the following important message for a friend on June 9th and
wanted to report that JewGenners came through and--so far--helped locate
three of the twenty-two child survivors (now in their 60s and 70s) on the
list! Many, many thanks. From contact with these survivors, it appears
that since most were under age 10 when they were separated from their
families and moved from place to place, they have very little concrete
information about their time on the run and in hiding during WWII. The
reunion being planned for them will shed light on their young
childhood--there are photos, documents and others who were with them in
hiding. Many of these people began a new life in the US and elsewhere
without their families. They seem eager to learn about their early life.

So, if you think you know of someone on the list below, please let me know.

My earlier post, once again:

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the people listed below? In May of
1940, some 100 Jewish children --most born in Germany and Austria (towns of
origin unknown)--fled from Brussels to Southern France to escape the
advancing Nazi forces. Most had been sent alone to Belgium for safety by
their parents after Kristallnacht November 1938. Some had lived in/near
Zoen, Belgium at the Bernheim Home for Girls. Some had lived in
Anderlecht, Belgium at the Foyer des Orphalins. Others may have been with
families or in other protective situations in Belgium. In southern France,
they lived in the hamlet of Seyre and then at the Chateau de la Hille near
Foix, from where many escaped to other countries. Some stayed until 1945.
Miraculously, about 90 survived.

In July 1998, a reunion of the survivors is being organized in Chicago, IL,
USA, in connection with the Varian FRY exhibition sponsored by the Field
Museum of Chicago and the US Holocaust Museum. The whereabouts of some of
the former "Children of La Hille", (plus their married or adopted names)
are not known. Do any JewGenners know of these people, most originally
from Germany or Austria (birthyear in parentheses)? They could be living
anywhere in the world:
