I am searching, on behalf of Erika FEDER (nee PARTOS), now living in
Melbourne, Australia, for information on her paternal genealogy.

Her father was Istvan PARTOS, born in Szeged (Hungary) in 1903. He
graduated from law school with a degree in law, but did not practice. He
owned an exclusive clothing business by the name of FISCHER & PARTOS, in
Karasz Street, Szeged. He married Frida WEIS (Erika's mother), in Szeged,
and the couple had 2 children: Ivan PARTOS (died young), and Erika PARTOS
(now FEDER). Istvan died in 1942 in the battle of Starioski (Russia).

Her gf: Lajos PARTOS, was a jeweller in Szeged and was married to Erika's
gm: (Anna ?)
They had 3 children: Istvan PARTOS (Erika's father), Imre PARTOS and Bela
PARTOS.

Erika thinks that at some stage (before her gf.), the family name could
have been POLLAK. She does not know how, when or why the name was changed.

Does anyone have information that would help in our search?

I wish a Good Yom Tov and well over the Fast, to all JewishGenners.

Dear Jacques,

My entire family is Hungarian and name changes seem to be quite frequent. Often
a result of "Hungarianizing" a name to be less Jewish sounding.

I have found that the official record of a name change was almost always noted
in the birth records. In the LDS films prior to 1895, I found notes that listed
name changes in 1901 and 1907.

Try looking up some of those old records.
