My wife came up with a new saying to me-"Yenta from Telebenta". I looked up
Telabenta in Shtetl Seeker and couldn't find it. Does anyone know the
derivation of this saying?

That's Yenta Telabende written be Jacob Adler. Pen Name: B. Kovner, wrote for
the Forward (Jewish Newspaper). Yenta Telebende was a famous character in
this newspaper (about a henpecking wife and a henpecked husband) invented by
this humorous writer. Mentioned in "World of our Fathers" by Irving Howe.
Page 529.
A reference is also made in Leo Rosten's "The Joys of Yiddish" page 429 under
the heading Yenta, Yente.
Info from letter dated 2/25/96 from Allen Rubin: "My grandfather Jacob Adler,
died at the age of 103 and was married for 75 years to Celia Adler.

Allen Rubin is married to my cousin Joan Oshins Rubin.
