I have posted a "searching for" notice in many places and publications
this year looking for information about the family of Bernard CARSON
(son of Mordechai CURSON) of Latvia. The KURSON/CURSON/CARSON family
(originally from Ape and Smiltene, Latvia) is large and lives mostly in
the area in and around Philadelphia, PA. I knew that Bernard had
immigrated to Glasgow, Scotland, and while there had opened one (and
then a second) jewelry store in Glasgow. That was all I knew about him.

Thus far, here is what I have learned:

Bernard (better known as Ben) CARSON had a jewelry shop in the
Bridgerton area of Glasgow. He and his wife Bertha (known as Margaret
until her marriage and conversion to Judaism) who was a native of
Scotland had three sons: Bert, Victor, and David.

About 1925, Ben, Bertha, and Bert emigrated to Palestine where they
lived in Rishon le Zion. There is where Victor and David were born.
Victor eventually married and emigrated to the USA, and David emigrated
to Canada (where he married and had a daughter). Bert also married, had
a daughter, and subsequently he and his wife divorced. This is all I know
about the children of Ben.

In 1938 Ben and Bertha went back to visit Glasgow. By then they moved
from Rishon to Cyprus. It is believed that Ben died in Cyprus. When
WW2 broke out, what was left of the family moved from Cyprus to
Tanginika (know known as Tanzania) where they lived until the end of the
war. Then, I was told, the family moved to Bondi Beach, Australia. I
don't know how long they lived in Australia, but they eventually
returned to Israel.

It has been learned that in 1947, Victor CARSON and his family lived
in suburban Philadelphia, PA. I didn't know exactly when, but
eventually the family returned to Israel.

Sometime in the 1960s, I have learned, they lived in London for a
while. Because Bertha couldn't deal with the cold weather in London,
she returned once more to Israel (probably some time around 1966-67). We
believe that Bertha died shortly after returning to Israel.

Correspondence between CARSON and a friend continued until about 1980.
He was living in Tel Aviv, on a street called "Los Angeles Street." In
1981, attempts were made to locate Bert or any part of the family in Tel
Aviv failed. Since Bert was know to be ailing at that time, it is
believed that he probably died.

This is all I know of this elusive part of our family. Does anyone,
anywhere, reading this post know anything of this family? I would very
much like to connect with any family member who is still alive. It is
probable that they don't know that they have a VERY large part of their
family still alive and thriving in the Greater Philadelphia, PA, area.

If you know of any part of this particular family branch, or if you know
anything about the KURSON/CURSON/CARSON family, please let me know.

Thank you for your kind attention to this request.

Rachel KURSON from Philadelphia, PA)
