St. Catherine's House, London - Births, Marriages, Deaths:
Certificates of all registered births, marriages and deaths since 1837 are
obtainable from the General Register Office, St. Catherine's House, 10
Kingsway, London WC2B 6JP. Cost of a certificate if applied for in person at
this office is L6. **Postal applications should be made to the General
Register Office, Smedley Hydro, Southport, Merseyside PR8 2HH. Cost of a
certificate is L15 (Air Mail), L13 (Surface Mail), L12 if year, quarter,
registration district & volume no. from The General Register Office index is
supplied. All payments are in sterling. When writing from abroad, enclose 3
IRCs.**

B. C. - date and place where event occurred, child's forename(s), normally
name/occupation of father, name/maiden surname of mother w/ her usual
residence if birth took place elsewhere, & name/address of informant for
registration.

M. C. - names and usually ages of contracting parties, their
addresses/occupations, names/occupations of their fathers, data and place of
marriage, & names of witnesses.

D. C. - name, date, place, age, cause of death, occupation of deceased,
residence if different from place of death, & name/address of informant for
registration. It does not show place of birth or parentage. (From 1968
onwards more details appear on the certificate.)
