Genuki is a good place to start British and Irish genealogy, if you
don't already know of it, as is the Irish Times web site:

The Irish Times site says that Couty Laois (formerly known as Leix) was
"part of the possessions of the O'Mores (or O'Moores) before the Norman
invasion".

Perhaps you have seen this Wikipedia article on Nicholas Tuite MacCarthy
which mentions David O'More of Portallen?

Portarlington, County Laois, was settled with French Huguenots in 1694.
It was historically called Cooletoodera.

Portallen was probably the name of the house or estate which David
O'More lived in at the time, rather than the name of a parish or
townland, subsequently known by another name or names.

It does not appear in the landed estates database (neither do the
O'Mores) of the National Univeristy of Ireland (NUI) in County Galway,
another useful resource.
