There was a follow-up article today (Friday, p5) and you're totally right.
The paper had assumed "A or H" was "Alfred (her brother) or Hannah", even
though the letter was asking for a baby doll and it said "or" rather than
"and". The son of Hannah (in Co. Down) had come forward and confirmed that
his mother also went by the name of Anna or Annie and that it was probably
an insurance in case Santa got confused.
No mention of the current owner giving it to the family. That would be a
nice touch - a 10 year old girl sending a Christmas present to her future
son 100 years later [I think they must be putting something in my coffee
here]
