Dún Laoghaire Genealogical Society in association with Ireland's leading
Internet Service Provider, IRELAND ON-LINE, is hosting a one day conference
on Saturday 11th September 1999 in The Rochestown Lodge Hotel, Rochestown
Avenue, Dún Laoghaire as part of Irish Heritage Week organised by Dúchas -
The Heritage Service.
The theme of the event is "Genealogy, Computers & the World Wide Web" -
indeed, more and more family historians are switching to PC's to store their
information and availing of the newest and most versatile software packages
for Family History. People researching their "roots" are now amongst the
greatest users of the World Wide Web - sharing and receiving genealogical
information from all corners of the globe.
The aim of the Conference is to provide an overview of the various computers
and computer packages available for use in Family History Research. IRELAND
ON-LINE will provide an introduction to the Internet and the World Wide Web.
Its ease of use and accessibility to all as not only a communications tool
but one of the greatest advances in popular education since the development
of television.

Fermanagh.
10.45. "Welcome to the World Wide Web - what is it?" All those questions you
wanted to ask - hopefully, answered. IRELAND ON LINE
11.15. Tea/Coffee Break
11.30. "Genealogy on the World Wide Web" - John Grenham The Irish Times
Website Family History Manager. John is author of the much acclaimed
"Tracing Your Irish Ancestors" - the essential research guide for all
interested in Irish Family History (now available in its revised and
enlarged edition)
12.45. IRELAND ON LINE Essential Product Introduction forms a prelude to our
after lunch session. Internet access is for everybody and IRELAND ON-LINE
are to the fore in Ireland providing access to the World Wide Web.

various software packages now available for genealogists and we discuss the
best options, availability and price range of each product for your Irish
Family History research needs.
15.45. "Introduction to Irish One Name Studies" Increasingly Irish
researchers are undertaking studies in to just one surname i.e. Byrne, O'
Neill or Stanley. This side of genealogy requires a new approach,
especially, for Gaelic surnames.
16.15. "Build Your Own Website" by Paul Maher, Spiders Consultancy. Family
Historians want to share their information and now especially, on the World
Wide Web. The best way to go about building your own Website and the options
available for you will be explored by the Webmaster of the Community Tourism
