With the name Muller (also spelled Mu"ller, Mueller, Miller) you are
dealing with one of the most common surnames in Germany. There are
thousands of distinct Muller families, and they are not all related
to each other. I have Mueller in my own Ahnentafel, but the chance
of mine connecting with yours is infinitesimal. Your best bet with
such a common surname is, not to search lists randomly in hopes of
a cold hit, but to use each record you find of births, marriages and
deaths of specifially YOUR people to provide leads to records of
prior events. In other words, use standard research strategies
applicable to ANY surname.

Boy, what a task! The Miller name is so common that I have needed to get
very specific in order not to lose my way. Anyway, I am descended from
MU"LLER immigrants who came to this country from Switzerland by way of the
German Palatinate during the mid-1700's. They were Amish, and settled
first in Berks County, PA, then to Somerset County, PA, and several
genrations later to Holmes County, OH. I have a database of over 5,600
relatives (half on my mother's side: MARTIN), and there are good written
resources for this family. If you have any specific interest in any of
this information, please let me know.

Hi Robert,

we do say in Germany Mueller is no name, it is a collect concept!

My ancestors with the name Mueller (a german u with two points upon the
letter") did live in the area of the southern Hunsrueck mountains. The
oldest I found in Friedelhausen (near the town Kusel). From this village
they did go to the area of Birkenfeld northern of Kusel). My mother with
this name was born in the village Eisen, 12 kilometres western of Birkenfeld.

But there are some Muellerfamilies, which are not relatet to us. If your
Muellers did live in the same area, do write me. I have some family books of
the villages around Eisen.

reegards Bernd

Joe,
I believe I have the "commonest" MILLER name i.e. David MILLER. Would you
mind checking to see if any of this connects with your info. I am trying to
find David MILLER and Debora ZOOK (could be ROOK) in New York and/or Pa.
during later half of 1700's. According to a family history written by their
grandson in 1922, they came from Germany about 1756/8 (when David was about 16
years old and Debora would have been about 5-7 years old) with their parents
and landed in "New York or nearby". The family history indicates that they
lived in New York or Pa---some references in Ky. indicate that they lived in
Pa. for at least some time. David and Debora married and migrated to Nelson
Co., Ky. by 1797. This indicates they lived in New York and/or Pa for about
40 years. After a couple years they moved on to nearby Washington Co. (now
Marion Co.), Ky.
David and Debora raised 12 children in Ky.---Cathy (b. abt 1780 in Pa ?),
Samuel (b. abt 1783 in Pa), Lewis (b. abt 1791 in Pa), Jacob (? in Pa ?),
Betsy (b. abt 1794 in Pa), Rachael, Mary, John, David Jr.(b. 1799 in Ky) and
three unidentified.
Haven't been able to find marriage, birth or other record in Pa. to locate
them.....starting to look in New York.
I would appreciate any thoughts.

Do you have a Johannes Mueller born 1725 in PA married to Maria Faber in
your database? His parents ( no names given) supposedly came from
Nassau. He died in the Moravian village in Winston-Salem, NC. Thanks.

Hi Joe,
I am interested in knowing if you might have a JORDAN family member in
your database.
We have family information that our JORDAN family was connected to a
MULLER. With the Muller probably being a woman.
If you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
THANKS
Cindy
