Your grandfather's place of residence was "Abbau, Vandsburg, Kreis Flatow,
Westpreussen".
Zempelburg was not a Kreis, but a town and Amtsgerichtsbezirk in Kreis
Flatow (my great, great grandfather was Amtsgerichtsrat in Zempelburg in
the 1840's). The Protestant church in Vandsburg belonged to the
Protestant parish of Zempelburg until it was set off as a separate parish
in 1829; there was also a Roman Catholic church in Vandsburg.
An "Abbau" is an isolated farmstead or estate; the Abbau closest to the
village of Vandsburg itself was known in the first decade of the 20th
century as "Zboser Heide". There were also several "Zabartowoer Abbauten
am Heidchen" belonging to the Protestant parish of Vandsburg but lying in
Kreis Wirsitz in Posen; the total population of these Zabartowoer
Abbauten at the turn of the century was under 20.

Dear Wilson,
"Flater" refers to "Flatow". The Vandsburg you found is indeed
the right one. It was once in Kreis Flatow. Kreis Flatow was formed in
1815 and was part of West Prussia. In 1920 the eastern part of Kreis
Flatow was taken from Germany to form part of the Polish Corridor.
This eastern section included Vandsburg and was called Powiat? (sp?)
Zempelburg which translates roughly as Kreis Zempelburg in German.
The "Abb." may be an abbreivation for "Abbau", ie. a group of newer
farmsteads outside of the traditional town center.
The LDS has tons of info for Vandsburg. Look in their catalogue
under "Prussia, West Prussia, etc..
