Alta Vista search engine now translates.... also you can Ctrl-C "copy" small
paragraphs for translation on their site. I believe the web site is
www.altavista.com

I have used it quite a bit and have found it very useful.

Thank you!

I have tried the Alta Vista translations a couple of times - for the foreign
languages that I know. Result: The translations were just miserable. Once
again, this is the confirmation that automatic translation algorithms do not
understand the context of the phrase. Please keep in mind that words do not
have a "one to one" translation - the translation always depends on the
context of the phrase!
It may work, however, for context-insensitive documents like forms.

There are many online systems that can help you translate. You need
to always be aware of the limitations of machine translation. The
quality can vary from system to system and all of the systems have
problems with metaphors and local idioms. If you have the need for
critical translations then it is best to hire a human translator or
take the time to learn the language.

You can find additional online systems at the "Online Dictionaries
and Translators" webpage. Try the free tranlation links for the best
results or you can use the dictionaries and try translating on your
on.

"Online Dictionaries and Translators" is located at:

And let's not forget that this is a free service. And it does conjugate
verbs for you! <S> Between the Alta Vista site and a good dictionary you
can usually make yourself understood. I normally translate English to
Italian and then copy that translation, paste it back in and translate it to
English. You can see the worst of the problems that way and then use your
dictionary to correct them.
