I'm planning a trip to Germany in the time frame of about two years from
now. I've enrolled in some German Language Classes at a local community
college. My purpose for this is to research/discover my German
cousins/ancestry and family that I believe may still be in the
Lennestadt/Altenhundem/Grevenbrück area of Westphalia. The surname would
be Dömer, or Doemer. I looked in a phone book for Germany and didn't
discover very many by that name in that area. However, someone from
Lennestadt's Website e-mailed me and said there were quite a number by that
name in Altenhundem. Since I don't want to just show up unannounced, which
I imagine is considered rude in any country, is there any other resource
where I might get their addresses to write letters? Addtionally, if anyone
has any advice on travel in that part of Germany, what to see, what to
avoid, those kinds of things, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Jim Doemer

Lennestadt has postcode 57368.
Make a search for postcode 573.. (last two figures unknown).
You will find
1 Dömer in 57368 Lennestadt
21 Dömer in 57399 Kirchhundem.
(You are allowed to write oe instead of ö. Pronounciation is totally
equal.)
Kirchhundem is located 2.5km south of Altenhundem.
Tell me if you are not successful with your search.

How would I write one of these addresses on an envelope to mail it? It
seems to have an extra set of numbers that I'm not familiar with. Thanks
for your help.

The "extra set of numbers" is the phone number with area code
(the addresses were obviously taken from some online or CD
phone directory). For calling a number from this list,
replace the leading zero of the area code with your
applicable prefix for "international call", followed
by "49" = country code for Germany; then go on with
the rest of the area code and the number after the dash (-).

The pattern for postal addresses is:

1st line: Herr
2nd line: Albert Dömer
3rd line: Zur Hardt 2
4th line: <blank>
5th line: 57399 Kirchhundem
6th Line: Germany

And so on for all names on the list Bernd Hoch gave you.
