Could someone please tell me where the Kingdom of Hannover is in
Germany?

In my GGGrandfather's will dated 1839, he states that two of his
brothers and one sister reside in Heersam near Hidersheim and Werlen
near Hoya both in the "Kingdom of Hanover."

Where would this be in today's Germany, Hannover?

Thanks for any help.

Heersum near Hildesheim?

With exceptions (Great duchy Oldenburg, duchy Braunschweig, principality
Schaumburg-Lippe; all these were 1839 within the kingdom of Hannover), the
Kingdom of Hannover is Lower Saxony today.

Afaik there is no HEERSAM, I presume that it possibly could be HEERSUM,
nowadays part of HOLLE near Hildesheim, about 15 km southeast of HILDESHEIM.
And there isn't any WERLEN either, it possibly could be VERDEN, about 30 km
southeast of BREMEN and about 25 km northeast of HOYA.

For some reason my first message did not appear. I spent a lot of time on
it so here it is again, following the message that prompted it.

Well, to start with, it's around the city of Hannover, which you can find on
any good map of Germany. I went to http://www.dogpile.com and just put in
+Kingdom +Hannover, and came up with this from an encyclopedia article:

=======
During the absence of the monarchs, Hannover was ruled by the Secret
Council and remained largely independent. It was considered to be an
underdeveloped rural country, but emerged strengthened from the turmoil of
the Napoleonic Wars and was subsequently declared a kingdom, giving itself a
constitution and a constitutional law. Both much to the displeasure of the
quite conservative Ernst August II, who returned to Hannover in 1837 after
leaving the affairs of England in the capable hands of Queen Victoria. Much
trouble in the kingdom of Hanover followed, including the professional ban
on the "Göttinger Sieben" ("The Göttingen Seven"), a group of seven scholars
from Göttingen, considered today the founders of German liberalism, who
protested against the abolition of Hannover's constitution by King Ernst
August II. The final demise of the Kingdom Hannover follows in 1866. During
the Prussian-provoked war between Prussia and Austria it was annexed by
Prussia after being unfortunate enough to take the wrong (Austrian) side. It
became one of Prussia's provinces. King George V had to abdicate and went
into exile.
================

The four Georges of England were from Hannover. The English English rulers
for quite awhile after that were from the "House of Hannover." The "absence
of the monarchs" in the above article would mean while these kings were in
England ruling that country. They were legally the rulers of both Hannover
and England.

To see where it is, just go to Mapquest (http://www.mapquest.com) and search
for Hannover. It will give the exact location. Or use any map of Germany.

The web site was at http://www.hannover.de/ From there you can click to an
English version.

Other information shows that it is in the state of Niedersachsen (Lower
Saxony) and the city of Hannover is the center of the Landkreis (county) of
Hannover.
