(1) Fritz = Short for "Fritz" ... yeah, this IS A COMPLETE first name

and also

(2) Fritz = short form of "Friederich" or "Friedrich"

I have a father and a great grandfather who were called Fritz. There birth

Most likely Fritz is short for Friederich .

One of the people who hid with Anne Frank and her family was named Fritz
Pfeffer. One source gives his name as Frederich Pfeffer.
