Hi, my gggrandfather was born in Kapsweyer, Germany. I am told that he
spoke Bavarian German at home, here in the states. At some time he moved to
Switzerland where he married and started a family. In late 1869 he and his
family along with several other family members immigrated to the U.S. Their
3rd child was born less than 30 days after their arrival in Newark, NJ. The
family eventually settled in Gainesville, TX. All family members that might
have known more details are gone now. I have been unable to find out
anything about his birth and life in Kapsweyer. Probable cousins in
Switzerland are working on the Swiss connection. If I had a location, at
least, on Kapsweyer, Germany, that would help me to start in a new
direction.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If looking for places you should use map-sites such as
http://www.expediamaps.com/PlaceFinder.asp. That indicates you this
place as 76889 Kapsweyer between Bad Bergzabern and France in the
formerly Bavarian Palatinate. Since the spelling is correct, you might
have been able to find church records on your ancestors from that palce
in a LDS-FHC near your home.
