Subject: locating the church town in Germany

Dear Mr. Goertz,
Whenever I get stuck, I come to you for help! I have found the villages my great-grandparents came from in Unterfranken, Kissigen, Bayern in 1856. The villages were small, but I have managed to locate them on a map. The problem is that when I find a map with enough detail to show these villages, I can no longer see the main towns they were near. But these villages appear to be close to Bad Kissigen. The villages were: Grosswenkheim, Poppenlauer, and Theinfeld. I would like to write to the church they attended, but there's my problem. How do I find out which Catholic Church served these small towns?
Thank-you, again, for your help!
Sincerely,
Carol Schaefer

Hi there,
Each town in Germany has a website ending with .de :
http://www.bad-kissingen.de/branchen/index.html?o%5Btext%5D=Kirchen

On these websites they list the churches in the area. Some churches have
email addresses and you can write them in English. You might have to pay a
fee for them to send the information.

Good luck

The spelling of the large town is 'Bad Kissingen' (with an
additional 'n').
--------------------------------------------------
Poppenlauer is now part of Massbach

Write to (if protestant)

Evangelisches Pfarramt Massbach
Poppenlauerer Str 16
D-97711 Maßbach
Germany

or to (if catholic)

Katholisches Pfarramt Massbach
Rannunger Str 7
D-97711 Maßbach
Germany

and ask them, where the parish records of that time and that town
can be found now.
--------------------------------------------------
Theinfeld is now part of Thundorf.

Ask a similar question at

Katholisches Pfarramt
Esther-von-Rosenbach-Str 23
D-97711 Thundorf
--------------------------------------------------
Grosswenkheim is now part of Muennerstadt.

Ask similar questions at

Evangelisches Pfarramt
Freiherr-von-Lutz-Str 9
D-97702 Muennerstadt
Germany

or at

Katholisches Pfarramt
Kirchplatz 5
D-97702 Muennerstadt
Germany

These Villages are all Part of the Dekanat (office of a dean) in the
bishopric (Bistum in german) or also called diocese (Diözesse) Würzburg.
The Homepage with Links to all parish (Pfarreien) is

http://www.bistum-wuerzburg.de/bwo/opencms/pfarreien/dekanate/bad_kissingen/index.html

Here you can see all postal adresses, telephon and fax numbers.
