Occupation - Torwart

My dictionary (which probably isn't very good) describes this c.1600
occupation as "goalkeeper". I doubt that being a soccer player in
those years was a multi million dollar profession. :-)

Any idea what its context was in those years?

Hello together!

The word "Torwart" is commonly used only for the gate-keeper in sports.
But perhaps it could mean in former times something like "Torwächter" -
watchman at the town-gate.
