I am looking for my French ancestors and would appreciate any advice.
Where can I send for records and information about them?

I am searching for more information about General Victor MAIRAT
(changed to MARAH) and his wife Marie Josephe CLOTILVE
who was born in Cagnon, France. Victor was born 5 Jan 1803
in France and died in Wright Co., Missouri on 4 Nov 1896.

His father was Peter Joseph MAIRAT.

They arrived in New Orleans during the summer of 1848 from France.

They migrated to Washington Co., Missouri where his brother, Donnah,
and his wife and family were living.
One of his six children was Coma Victor MARAH who was born
5 Mar 1839 in France. Coma died 17 Dec 1919 in Wright Co., Missouri
and fought in the Civil War.

I wrote the previous post about the Marah Family in 1995. I spent many years looking at films at my local Family History Library. Have much more information. Visit https://sites.rootsweb.com/~genepool/marah.htm - for more information.

I am part of that family. My birth name is Lisa Marah (now married and named Lisa Nitsch) and I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. While going through my deceased grandfather's things, I found a copy of the handwritten passport for Victor Mairat and a photo of his son. I'm not entirely sure how my grandfather, Charles Marah, connects, but clearly he does somehow.
