Hello Fellow Listers

I am researching my Gouin roots, is it worthwhile to try and get a copy of
Jette/Tanguay and being in the UK can I get it here? Also, before I do go
ahead can anyone give me an idea of what is in them.

Thanks in advance.

Fench-Canadian genealogy is gifted with the existence of a virtually complete set of
parish registers dating back to the beginnings of the colony in the St-Lawrence Valley.

The Jetté and Tanguay are both genealogical dictionnaries, meaning the Baptisms, marriages
and burials of the parish registers are worked into families, listed in the alphabetical
order of the man. A family notice is made up of the name of the spouses and of their
parents, the date of their marriage and the list of their children, giving for each his
date and place of birth and of first marriage (with the name of the spouse).

Jette, dating to the early 1980s, covers the period 1621-1730; the Tanguay, published in
the XIXth century, extends sometimes to 1760, but is often very lacking from the 1740s.
Also, it contains mistakes that have now been found and corrected in most modern sources.

But you can access, for a fee, all the information in both the Jette and the Tanguay, and
beyond, at www.genealogy.umontreal.ca
It has a repertory of baptisms, marriages and burials up to 1799, a genealogical
dictionnary up to 1765, and all couples and filiations up to 1799.

Hi Sarah,

I think Mister Desjardins answered some of your interrogation; i would
like to add to those informations that there is an online copy of the
Tanguay dictionnary available, free of charge at
www2.biblinat.gouv.qc.ca/numtextes/accueil.htm

I also want to offer my services if you want to know anything about the
Béliveau family.
